Review: Moon Mail and Star Kisses by Amanda Salisbury
Moon Mail and Star Kisses by Amanda Salisbury
In Moon Mail and Star Kisses, a loving adult and child must be separated for a little while. The adult promises the child to send greetings and kisses through the night sky, shared no matter the distance of place or time apart. The moon, the stars, and a person’s love are bright and constant even when they cannot be seen.

Moon Mail and Star Kisses is a lovely and entertaining rhyming book for children and parents alike. The rhymes are engaging and adds a definite rhythm that will appeal to young children. Yet, the vocabulary is not dummied down (I hate that) so that a middle school child will still enjoy it and be challenged by the verse. Parents will love the sentiment. It is a comforting tale about how a parent can be with a child when they are separated. The child just looks up at the moon and stars. Stars can store hundreds of kisses.
The illustrations are wonderful. I don’t know if any of them were drawn by children but the images are very kid-friendly. The colors are bright and the pictures have small details that keep the eye interested. I would recommend this to any parent or teacher. As a first grade teacher, I’ll be adding this to my classroom library.
Amanda Salisbury lives on the red planet of Oklahoma. All her best stories are sifted through the screens of her education and experience in history, law, finance, and mothering. She lives with her husband and boys in a lair, a classroom, or a castle, depending on the moment.
